On December 9th, the SPCA held its first annual
Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. For a small donation Christmas tree
ornaments were available to personalize and hang on our newly planted
Norway Spruce! It was a lot of fun, and a great success. We raised $3,500
for the dogs and cats at the Shelter. Lots of our friends attended, and a
good time was had by all.
The ceremony was
also dedicated to Ellen Burzon, Executive Director of the SPCA, who
retired in December after over 25 years of outstanding service to the
SPCA. Santa gave a speech for Mrs. Burzon thanking her for her many
accomplishments. We will miss her greatly.
After the tree lighting, we had our Christmas party at the Simpson
Clinic. Santa and his elves were there, giving out treats. Our Christmas
Village and inside tree were gorgeous. The children sat on Santa's lap to
give their Christmas wish list, and to admire the beautiful decorations.
We had some
help from our friends the "Green Girls." They're volunteers from an
environmental group in Yorktown. June Gulitz, Amanda Schick, and Heather
Schnell volunteered to help with the decorating, refreshments and cleaning
up. These girls were great, we couldn't have done it without them. Thanks
girls!!! Donations of dog and cat food, toys, beds and blankets were made
by our caring friends, such as the 4-H club, the Girls Scouts and the Boy
Scouts of America. We thank you all.
We will be sending out our invitations next year in November, send us
an email if you would like to
attend.
A new place to romp
at the SPCA!
We have a new exercise pen at the SPCA! During the
late fall, the staff at the SPCA collected funds to build an exercise pen
for the shelter dogs to play in.
For a $40 donation, benefactors have plaques affixed to the pen bearing
the name of their company, loved ones, their companion animals or to honor
friends, family or pets in memory. We filled it with toys and a beautiful
stone bench and christened it "Elly's Romp N' Run" in dedication to Ellen
Burzon.
The dogs
LOVE the pen, which is approximately 24'x42'. We can bring them in and let
them run and play, or let prospective adopters bring in the dog of their
choice and spend time deciding if this may be the dog for them!
