How to Help
  • Donate funds - Many corporations offer matching gift programs that can double and even triple your gifts to the SPCA! Be sure to check with your personnel or community affairs office.

  • Donate your vehicle - to the SPCA and get a tax write off. Donate cars, trucks, vans, RVs or boats. There is even free pickup! Just call 800.818.7089.

  • Adopt an animal - One of the greatest things an animal lover hears is when someone proudly responds to a compliment about their new dog or cat by saying, "I got her at a shelter." A treasure that someone may have treated badly, a treasure that could have lived forever as a stray with no love, no hope, a treasure that found its way home. So, if you're looking to find your own treasure please visit our list of pets!

  • Sponsor a pet - Some of our animals are more difficult to place than others. They may be old and infirm, have a disability or a chronic health problem, or may be just a little too energetic for most tastes. But they all deserve some special attention. We hope you can find it in your heart to help them. (Remember, your donations are all tax deductible, too.)

  • Volunteer - Improving the lives of animals is a big task. But every little thing you can do to help solve the problems of cruelty and neglect, irresponsible pet guardianship and overpopulation counts. The SPCA of Westchester's Volunteer Program will give you the opportunity and the satisfaction of knowing that you are truly making a difference in the lives of all animals. Together we can make a difference.

  • Foster a pet - The SPCA of Westchester needs volunteers to act as foster parents to help animals transition between the shelter and a permanent home. These animals are either too young, need socialization or nursing back to health, or are having trouble adapting to the stressful surroundings of an animal shelter. Whether it's a litter of orphaned kittens who need to be bottle fed or an abused dog who needs TLC to be able to trust people again, foster parents provide a safe environment for these animals to mature, become more socialized or heal from an illness.

  • Mend A Friend - The SPCA of Westchester has set up an emergency fund to help animals that come in to our shelter who are in need of special veterinary care. The "Mend A Friend" fund allows the SPCA to help save the lives of homeless animals in need, making it possible for them to receive special surgery or expensive veterinary treatments. Read about Hard Luck Molly and Carmen.

  • Humane Education - The SPCA has a special fund set up to sustain our Humane Education program. A contribution to the Janet Greenspan Memorial Outreach Fund is an investment in helping to raise a kinder generation of kids who will learn to speak out for animals and for others who cannot speak for themselves. Please call (914) 941-2896 ext. 19 to learn more about contributions to the Janet Greenspan Memorial Outreach Fund.

  • Insuring the Future - Many of us have life insurance policies that were purchased years ago for a specific reason. Maybe you had young children and needed to provide for them in case anything happened to you. As with all important documents, you should review your life insurance policies regularly to make sure that they are still serving their purpose, appropriate for your current situation, and with the right beneficiary named. Perhaps you have a policy that is no longer needed. Did you know you can give that policy to the SPCA of Westchester? This is a great way to help the animals without affecting your current income or emergency savings. And it's easy to do. Your insurance professional or the insurance company directly can get the appropriate forms for you!

  • Planned Giving - The SPCA of Westchester would not be able to continue its mission without the generous support it receives from Trusts and Estates each year. A bequest in your Will can be a simple and extremely effective way to make a gift to the SPCA. You can designate the SPCA of Westchester as the direct beneficiary of a specific asset, of a portion of your estate or of the residue of your estate after payment of other bequests. You can also memorialize a gift and provide support for a program or facility that will honor your special person.
